Support the community purchase of
Wholefoods of Newport - become a shareholder!

Can you help us secure the future of Newport's much-loved wholefoods shop?

Would you like Wholefoods of Newport to continue as a community-owned shop? We would! And that’s why the Project Wholefoods team is working hard to follow in the footsteps of Havards of Newport which became the UK’s first community-owned hardware shop in the UK in 2022.

The community share offer opened on 11 July 2024 and we are already more than 25% of the way to our target of £375,000!

Some background

Project Wholefoods Limited is registered as a Community Benefit Society with the aim of purchasing and running Wholefoods of Newport as a community-owned shop.

As was the case with Havards, we are raising money via a community share offer and by applying for grants.

The community share offer was launched at the Memorial Hall in Newport on 11 July 2024. We were delighted with the response from attendees, and we are already more than 25% towards our target. But there's still a long way to go - so, if you haven't already done so, please consider investing now.

As outlined in detail at the launch (see video and slidedeck), assuming we are successful in purchasing the shop, we will continue to offer a broad range of good, wholesome foods, and to maintain the emphasis on local, sustainable and ethical products. The product range would also continue to complement other local retailers.

We also have lots of ideas about how to develop Wholefoods of Newport so that it is an even better place to shop – for residents and visitors alike. And, as profitability allows, our aim would be to support food-oriented initiatives to benefit the local community.
