Would you like Wholefoods of Newport to continue as a community-owned wholefoods shop? We would! And that’s why the Project Wholefoods team is working hard to follow in the footsteps of Havards of Newport which became the UK’s first community-owned hardware shop in the UK in 2022.
Project Wholefoods Limited is now registered as a Community Benefit Society with the aim of purchasing and running Wholefoods of Newport as a community-owned shop.
As was the case with Havards, the Project Wholefoods team plans to raise money via a community share offer (to be launched in July 2024) and grants.
If we are successful, we plan to continue to offer a broad range of high quality, wholesome foods, and to maintain the emphasis on local, sustainable and ethical products. The offer would also continue to complement other local retailers.
We also have lots of ideas about how to develop Wholefoods of Newport so that it is an even better place to shop – for residents and visitors alike. And, as profitability allows, our aim would be to support food-oriented initiatives to benefit the local community.
